Truly fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission to take the gospel to all the world means more than merely preaching Bible truths. It means the harmonious development of the whole person; not only spiritually, but also physically, mentally, and emotionally. This is why we believe in including a solid Christian educational component in our evangelistic strategy.
Our Sponsorship Program
We currently connect more than 100 students with sponsors who help them pay for their educational expenses. They range from primary school level through university. Some of them stay in EOF affiliated dormitories; others attend other Adventist schools or universities.
Our goal is to connect people who want to help make a difference with aspiring young people from the mountains in Thailand or Myanmar. If you are interested in helping these young people, we can partner with you. Below you will find a list of the students who currently need sponsors.
Most of our students are from hill tribe villages in Thailand or Myanmar. In Thailand, thanks to recent government development projects, it is now possible for most children to attend at least a basic primary school. However, for children from Christian families, and those who want to learn more about God, Christian schools are few and far between.
Many areas in Myanmar are less fortunate. Various paramilitary groups, and the government junta have been fighting on and off for much of a century leaving many villages poor, isolated, and in constant danger. Many children and young people in these conflict areas have no access to even basic educational opportunities.
In the mountains and refugee camps, it usually costs about $140 USD per year to send a child to school. This is cost prohibitive for many families in this area (in Mutraw district, for an extreme example, a family may make $35 USD per year). By helping them get a good Christian education, you are improving both their lives, and the effectiveness with which they will be able to work for God.
In Thailand, where the standard of living is not only much better, but improving year after year, school tuition at Adventist schools can be high enough that many of the hill tribe people from the mountains are unable to meet the expense. It currently costs more than $600 USD to send a student to Chiangmai Adventist Academy.
Besides helping with school tuition, we encourage sponsors to keep in contact with the student they choose to sponsor. Most don’t have email so you’ll have to communicate via regular postal mail. If the student can’t read and write your language sufficiently, we can translate letters to and from English.
